Rush Wright Associates worked with the City of Boroondara to undertake a detailed study of the Glenferrie Precinct to map its physical and other more tactile and atmospheric characteristics. Our streetscape plan for Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn takes a placemaking approach to the reconfiguration of this vibrant busy street from one that prioritises cars to one that is people focussed.

Our careful study of the architectural heritage and character, precinct connections to adjacent sports, arts and recreation facilities along with existing infrastructure and microclimate is generating a new precinct approach to locating diverse spaces and functions in the street.

An ambitious strategy to significantly reduce on street parking by a minimum of 30% streetwide will open up new opportunities for activation and greening.

RWA explored the counterbalance of the replacement of carparks for tree planting. Taking existing lengths of car parking and reconfiguring the balance between carparks and trees results in differing metrics of how many carparks and trees can coexist. The variations provide space for WSUD, trees, new flexible spaces for busy areas and an option for no parking.
